Barranc de Biniaraix

Barranc de Biniaraix is a deep gorge carved through the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, opening into the Sóller valley with several hiking routes available. The ravine has steep rock walls and connects different areas using trails that mix paved sections, gravel, and natural paths.

An ancient stone path through the gorge was built to connect Sóller with scattered farmsteads and the monastery of Lluc, enabling the movement of goods and people. This route became an important economic link for the region over many centuries.

The valley displays traditional farming methods through olive terraces built on steep slopes, showing how locals managed the land across generations. These farming techniques still shape the landscape you see when walking through.

The hiking routes through the gorge are passable throughout the year, though spring and autumn offer the most comfortable conditions with moderate temperatures. Bring sturdy footwear and plenty of water, as the trails offer little shade and few places to buy supplies along the way.

The GR 221 Ruta de Pedra en Sec partially follows these historic paths, featuring a network where dry-stone walls built without mortar have survived for generations. These stones were fitted by hand and endure through careful placement that adapts to the landscape.
