Saint Michael church

Saint Michael church is a church building in Altea with five golden domes and an octagonal bell tower constructed from wood. The structure displays traditional Russian Orthodox designs and serves as a visible place of worship within the town.

The building opened in 2002 as the first temple of this faith in Spain. Its completion marked a turning point for religious diversity in the Alicante region.

The building brings together Russian Orthodox traditions and Spanish artistic skills through its interior icons and religious decoration. Visitors encounter a blend of Eastern spirituality with Mediterranean craftsmanship in a single space.

The building sits on a hilltop with limited parking nearby, so arriving early in the day works best. The steps leading to the entrance require some effort to climb, and comfortable shoes are recommended.

Many construction materials, especially specific wood types, were transported from the Ural region and assembled on-site by Russian craftsmen. This use of imported resources makes the building's construction approach notable in its Spanish setting.
