Jardins de Santa Clotilde, Mediterranean garden in Lloret de Mar, Spain
Jardins de Santa Clotilde is a formal park set on cliffs between two coves along the Costa Brava coastline. The site consists of several terraced levels with paths, staircases, and planted areas that spread across the sloping terrain.
A landowner had the site transformed in the early twentieth century, commissioning a local architect to convert former vineyard land into a formal garden layout. The project became a defining landmark for the coastal town and its development.
The gardens reflect Catalan design traditions through symmetrical layouts and classical sculptures placed throughout the space. The planted areas follow a clear geometric order that becomes visible as you walk through the different terraces.
The park is easily reached on foot from nearby areas and accessed through an entrance close to the beach. The uneven terrain with numerous staircases requires good footwear as the site is not fully accessible for all mobility levels.
Staircase risers are covered with climbing plants that appear like green waterfalls when viewed from below. This planting of the step edges is an unusual design choice that gives the place a living quality.
