Santuario del Puig de Maria, Medieval hermitage on Puig de Maria mountain in Pollença, Spain.
The stone sanctuary stands at 330 meters above sea level, featuring a bell tower, fortified walls, and traditional Mallorcan architectural elements throughout the structure.
Construction of the sanctuary began in 1348, followed by the establishment of a church in 1355, later expanding to include a monastery school, library, and care facilities.
The sanctuary holds regular religious ceremonies, maintaining its status as an active pilgrimage site while housing a venerated statue of the Virgin Mary.
Visitors can reach the sanctuary through a 30-minute hike on marked trails from Pollença, with signs indicating local flora and fauna along the path.
The monastery complex served as a defensive stronghold in 1550 when local residents successfully protected themselves against an attack of 1500 soldiers.
