Goya Museum - Ibercaja Collection - Camón Aznar Museum, Art museum in central Zaragoza, Spain
The Goya Museum, also known as the Camón Aznar Museum, is an art museum in Zaragoza, Spain, housed in a 16th-century Renaissance palace. Spread across three floors, it holds over 800 works including paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures, and ceramics by Spanish artists from different centuries.
The palace was built in 1535 for one of Zaragoza's most respected jurists and stands as one of the city's finest Renaissance buildings. In the early 20th century, José Camón Aznar donated his personal art collection to the city, giving the museum its current identity.
The name Camón Aznar honors José Camón Aznar, a Spanish art historian from Zaragoza who assembled the core of this collection over his lifetime. Walking through the rooms, visitors can see how his personal taste shaped what is on display, mixing Goya's work with pieces from other Spanish artists across different periods.
The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, with visiting hours in both the morning and early evening. Since all three floors are open to visitors, it is worth allowing more time than you might expect for a gallery of this size.
The museum holds first editions of Goya's most celebrated print series, which are rarely on public display outside specialist archives. Alongside these, the collection features paintings by nearly forgotten Aragonese painters from the 15th and 16th centuries, whose work is almost never shown elsewhere.
