Residència d'Oficials de Barcelona, Military residence in Pedralbes, Spain
The Residència d'Oficials de Barcelona is a military residential building in Pedralbes with rationalist design from the post-war period. The white structure extends in an L-shape along Captain Arenas Street and displays a central coat of arms on its main facade.
The building was constructed between August 1939 and May 1940 by architects Josep Soteras i Mauri and Manuel de Solà-Morales i de Rosselló. Its completion came during Spain's immediate post-civil war period, when new public structures symbolized the transformed state.
The building displays rationalist architecture through geometric forms and functional spaces that prioritize practicality over decoration. This plain design reflects the clear, organized thinking common in this architectural style.
The location sits in an established business district with good public transport access and nearby transit connections. The grounds offer parking, dining facilities, and gardens for visitors and guests.
When finished, the building was surrounded by farmland and sat completely isolated from the city. Today it sits in the middle of one of Barcelona's major business districts, transformed by urban expansion.
