Necrópolis megalítica de Panoría, Bronze Age burial site in Darro, Spain.
Necrópolis megalítica de Panoría is a Bronze Age archaeological site with 19 burial chambers situated at the eastern edge of the Sierra Harana range. The graves display trapezoidal and rectangular stone structures that once held ceramic vessels, flint implements, stone arrowheads, and shells alongside human remains.
This burial ground dates from 5600 to 4100 years ago and was systematically excavated between 2015 and 2019. The research uncovered more than 55,000 human skeletal remains that illuminate the population living in this region during that era.
The burial chambers align to face the rising sun at equinoxes, showing that ancient residents wove observations of the sky into their funeral customs.
The site lies in open countryside and is accessible year-round with no barriers or gates. Visitors should wear appropriate footwear and be prepared for uneven ground across the ancient burial field.
DNA analysis revealed an unexpected gender ratio: women were buried twice as often as men, with an even more striking ratio of ten to one among young people. This distribution differs sharply from other burial sites of the same period.
