Marbella, Coastal resort city in Costa del Sol, Spain.
Marbella is a coastal city on Costa del Sol with about 26 kilometers of Mediterranean coastline stretching between Cabopino and Guadalmina, while the Sierra Blanca mountains form a natural barrier to the north. The city spreads from the sea to the mountains and combines modern facilities with an older historic core.
The settlement began as a Roman town called Salduba and later became an Arab fortress before being incorporated into the Crown of Castile in 1485. This blending of different cultures shaped the place over many centuries.
The old town square contains Renaissance buildings including a 16th-century town hall and displays traditional Andalusian architecture with orange trees. The narrow streets and whitewashed houses throughout the historic center maintain this Mediterranean character.
The Puerto Banus marina offers moorings for large boats and is surrounded by restaurants, international fashion stores, and entertainment options all within walking distance of the seafront. The flat coastal zone provides easy access, while the mountains behind offer hiking opportunities for different fitness levels.
The municipality maintains approximately 70 golf courses across its territory, placing it among the highest concentrations of golf facilities in continental Europe. This large number of courses attracts golfers from around the world.
