Bullring of Teruel, Bullring in Teruel, Spain
The Bullring of Teruel is an arena built in the Neo-Mudéjar style, located south of the city center and featuring decorative brickwork typical of the period. It accommodates about 6,800 spectators and displays traditional Spanish architectural elements throughout its design and structure.
Architect Juan Antonio Muñoz Gómez designed this arena, which opened on May 30, 1935, with performances from established matadors of the time. Since its inauguration, it has become an important venue for cultural events in the region.
This venue plays a central role during the Fiesta del Ángel each July, when the city celebrates its patron saint with traditional performances that draw crowds from across the region. The event has become deeply woven into how locals mark the summer season and gather as a community.
The venue is located south of the city center and is easily accessible from downtown, with good capacity for managing visitor flow during events. Arrive early when visiting during festival periods to secure a good spot and navigate the grounds comfortably.
On July 9, 2016, matador Victor Barrio suffered a fatal injury within these walls, becoming the first bullfighter of the 21st century to die in a Spanish arena. This tragic event marked a significant and memorable moment in the history of Spanish bullfighting.
