El Vergel roman villa

The El Vergel complex spans 40 hectares across both banks of the Espinarejo River, containing 37 distinct rooms with polychrome mosaic floors.

Excavations of this third-century Roman villa began in 2002, following its initial discovery through a letter by Fausto Rico in 1905 mentioning Roman mosaics.

The archaeological site features narrative mosaics depicting the Myth of Meleager, demonstrating the integration of Roman mythology in provincial territories.

The Provincial Council of Ávila has invested over 700,000 euros since 2002 to develop visitor infrastructure and preserve the archaeological remains.

Digital reconstructions and virtual reality installations allow visitors to experience the villa's portico as it existed during Roman times.
