Barinatxe

Barinatxe is a wide sandy beach in Sopelana's bay along the Cantabrian coast, covered with fine golden sand throughout. Tall rock cliffs frame the shoreline, and regular waves roll in from the open sea.

The beach became a clothing-optional zone when Spain changed its naturism laws in the late 1980s. This shift reflected larger changes happening in the region at that time.

People of many backgrounds gather here and move freely without self-consciousness. Body freedom is a normal part of how the beach community lives and spends time together.

The beach is easy to reach by metro and has lifeguards and basic facilities during summer. Surfing conditions tend to be better in colder months when waves are stronger.

The place attracts both naturists and surfers since the waves are consistent and the bay is sheltered enough for both groups. This mix creates an unusual meeting point for two very different visitor communities.
