Refugi Cap de Llauset, Mountain hut in Montanuy, Spain.
Refugi Cap de Llauset is a mountain hut located at 2425 meters (7956 feet) in the eastern Aragonese Pyrenees, accommodating around 30 people year-round. The facility offers heating, hot water, meal service, and operates as a meteorological monitoring station with its own waste systems.
Construction of this shelter began in 2010, with a partial opening in 2016 and full completion in 2018, funded by the Provincial Council of Huesca. The project emerged from the need to provide modern accommodation at this remote high-altitude location.
This shelter sits within Posets-Maladeta Natural Park and serves as a key stopping point for hikers following the GR 11 Trans Pyrenees trail. It connects visitors to the traditional mountain routes that crisscross this part of the range.
This location is accessible year-round but requires good preparation and physical fitness for the approach hike. Visitors should bring proper gear and watch weather carefully, as the high altitude means conditions can change rapidly.
From this shelter, hikers can make circular routes to Aneto peak and the Maladetas massif, positioning it at the base of multiple summits exceeding 3000 meters. Its location opens access to several alpine routes with varying difficulty levels.
