Mesa Roldán Lighthouse, Maritime lighthouse on Mesa Roldán plateau, Carboneras, Spain
The Mesa Roldán Lighthouse stands 18 meters tall on an extinct volcano, reaching a focal height of 222 meters above the Mediterranean Sea point.
Built in 1863 on the site of a former watchtower from 1497, the structure protected the Spanish coast from North African naval incursions.
The lighthouse contains a museum dedicated to maritime navigation, displaying artifacts and information about the Spanish Mediterranean coastal defense system.
The automated beacon produces four flashes every twenty seconds and maintains visibility for vessels up to 23 nautical miles from the coastline.
The structure received global recognition after appearing in Game of Thrones television series as part of the fictional city of Meereen setting.
