Parque de Las Canteras

This urban park in Puerto Real spans about 25 hectares and features walking trails winding through pine trees, Mediterranean shrubs, and native orchid species. The space is organized through several connected courtyards including Patio del Pozo, Patio Negro, and Patio Alto, which provide access to different sections.

In the 16th century, this site served as a quarry where stone was extracted for local buildings and the Cathedral of Seville. After years of abandonment, it was later reclaimed and transformed into a recreational space.

The central area holds an altar honoring the Virgin of Lourdes, the town's patron saint, where visitors can observe a place of spiritual importance to the community. This altar reflects how local faith traditions shape the park's role today.

The park is accessible on foot through multiple entrances and well-maintained, making walks along the trails straightforward. Wearing comfortable shoes is advisable, and shaded areas beneath the pines offer relief during hot weather.

The land was restored from an abandoned quarry and deliberately transformed into an artificial Mediterranean forest by replanting native vegetation. This reclamation demonstrates how industrial wastelands can become green recreational spaces for the community.
