Puerto Real

Puerto Real is a port town on the northern shore of the Bay of Cádiz, spreading across maritime zones and inland territories. Today it houses an Airbus manufacturing facility that produces aircraft components and anchors the local economy.

The town was founded in 1483 by the Catholic Monarchs and received special maritime rights for expeditions to North Africa. This establishment marked the beginning of the region's maritime importance to the Spanish Crown.

The town maintains strong maritime traditions through local neighborhood groups and annual celebrations like carnival and the Feast of Saint Sebastian. These customs show how seafaring heritage continues to shape community life.

The town is best explored on foot, moving between the port areas and older residential neighborhoods. The bay's proximity provides helpful landmarks, and most areas are easily accessible for visitors.

A portion of the Bay of Cádiz Natural Reserve extends into the town's territory, protecting wetlands that provide habitat for numerous bird species. These water zones are accessible to visitors and offer glimpses of local wildlife.
