The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Expectación is a Baroque church laid out as a Latin cross with a central nave and side chapels featuring semicircular niches. A decorated dome tops the interior, painted with images of the four evangelists.
The main structure was built over several decades beginning in 1608, with the construction phase concluding in 1643. The tower and choir section followed later, added between 1664 and 1674 to complete the church.
The church became a pilgrimage center after the arrival of the Santo Cristo de Burgos in 1637, a sacred image that still draws visitors seeking spiritual connection. People gathered here to venerate this religious treasure and the town grew around this sacred purpose.
