Torre de la Cadena

Torre de la Cadena is a stone tower with a square base measuring about 5.40 meters on each side, featuring three floors and multiple balconies across its facade. It stands at the intersection of Avenida Miguel Hernández and the road to Playa de San Juan near the University Hospital roundabout.

The tower was built between the 16th and 17th centuries as protection against pirate attacks along the Mediterranean. It was part of a wider defense system that monitored the coasts and farming areas.

The tower served as both a defense post and a landmark in the agricultural landscape where farmers worked daily. It represents how communities organized protection across the region's fields.

The tower sits at a busy road intersection, making it easy to locate by following main traffic routes in the area. Visitors should be aware of traffic when approaching and may find quieter nearby paths if needed.

The tower retains an original stone archway that was relocated during road construction and once provided water access to nearby residents. This feature shows how these structures served multiple purposes beyond just defense for the local community.
