Iglesia de San Martín de Porres

Iglesia de San Martín de Porres is a church with functionalist design in the Pinar del Rey district of Madrid. The rectangular building features an open nave of approximately 1500 square meters with an integrated chapel and choir section.

The building was consecrated in 1965 by Archbishop Casimiro Morcillo González following the development of the Hortaleza Neighborhood Housing Unit. The church was created as a spiritual center for the new residents of this growing area.

The main altar features a large mosaic mural with a Christ figure made of iron and concrete, surrounded by colored stained glass windows. These artworks give the interior a calm focal point that draws the eye naturally.

The church is located at Calle Abegondo 28 and is easily reached via Hortaleza metro station on line 4 or bus lines 107 and 9. The site sits in a residential neighborhood with good public transport connections.

The church serves as a spiritual center for three distinct neighborhoods: UVA, Parque de Santa María, and Virgen del Carmen. This arrangement shows how a single building supports multiple growing communities.
