Edificio Mirador, Postmodern apartment building in Hortaleza district, Madrid, Spain.
Edificio Mirador is a residential complex with 21 floors and 155 apartments, distinguished by a large rectangular opening that frames views of the Guadarrama Mountains. The structure connects nine separate blocks with different forms and materials into a unified whole.
The project was completed in 2005 by Dutch firm MVRDV and Spanish architect Blanca Lleó as part of Madrid's suburban expansion plan. It emerged during a period when the city was extending outward and experimenting with new forms of residential design.
The complex was designed to bring together residents with different lifestyles and housing needs. The nine separate blocks with varying facades and materials create a place where neighbors interact and community life unfolds naturally.
The site is easily accessible by public transportation, particularly via the nearby Álvarez de Villaamil metro station and several bus stops in the area. Visitors should be aware that this is a residential neighborhood and access to interior courtyards may be limited.
An elevated sky plaza approximately 40 meters above ground creates a public space suspended over the site where residents observe the city panorama and find quiet moments. This unusual vertical plaza is a rare architectural feature in residential construction.
