Edificio Celosía

Edificio Celosía is a residential complex made of thirty interconnected sections arranged in a checkerboard pattern that houses one hundred forty-six apartments. The layout creates shared gardens and courtyards between sections, while each unit receives natural light and air from multiple sides.

The building rose during the 2000s as a housing project in Madrid's northeastern urban expansion. Its completion marked a significant moment in the neighborhood's modern development.

The layout creates natural gathering spots between separate volumes where residents encounter each other and spend time together. This mixing of homes and open spaces encourages neighbors to know one another.

The site is accessible on foot and fairly easy to navigate since the structure creates clear pathways between sections. Visitors can explore the different levels and garden areas without needing a guide.

The modular construction allows for different apartment sizes without extra building costs, combining three floor plan variations within one structure. This flexible system was innovative for its time and shows how affordability and variety can work together.
