Al Pueblo del Dos de Mayo de 1808, Public monument in Plaza de España, Madrid, Spain

The bronze and limestone monument features a winged figure holding a flag above a soldier, cannon, child, and fallen bodies.

The sculpture commemorates the Madrid uprising against Napoleonic forces on May 2, 1808, marking the beginning of Spanish Independence War.

Each May 2nd, citizens gather at the monument to honor the memory of those who defended Madrid during the French occupation.

The monument stands in a garden area near Temple of Debod, accessible through multiple public transportation options in central Madrid.

Initially installed with a plaster cast painted green in 1908, the actual bronze sculpture was completed and mounted later that year.
