Dolmen a Casa dos Mouros, Neolithic dolmen in Candéan, Spain.
The Dolmen Casa dos Mouros consists of five vertical stone slabs forming walls topped by a heavy capstone. The chamber measures roughly three meters long and two meters wide, with stone slabs reaching heights of about two meters.
This megalithic structure was built between the late 5th and late 3rd millennium BCE as a burial chamber during the Neolithic period in Galicia. Its construction reflects the burial practices and building skills that communities possessed during that ancient time.
The name Casa dos Mouros refers to Mouros, mythological beings from Galician folklore linked to ancient stones and historical places. The local stories connecting these spirits to the site remain part of how people understand and experience the monument today.
The site is freely accessible in the open landscape and requires only basic fitness to reach. Visiting works best during dry weather, as the ground around the structure can become slippery.
Vigo City Council purchased the land containing this dolmen in 1990 to prevent construction near this archaeological monument. This action protected the site from modern development and preserved it for future generations.
