Monastery of A Visitación das Salesas Reais, Vigo, Religious monastery in Teis district, Vigo, Spain.
The Monastery of the Royal Visitation in Teis is a granite complex with unpolished stones from local quarries and bold external buttresses that define its form. The building consists of a church and a single pavilion arranged as a compact religious complex.
Architect Antonio Palacios Ramilo designed the building in 1942, drawing on medieval Galician architectural elements in its design. The church was consecrated in 1945, marking the completion of the only section built from the original plan.
The monastery embodies the traditions of the Visitation order, dedicated to prayer and contemplative life within the community. Daily religious services shape the spiritual rhythm of those who live and worship here.
The monastery is located in the Teis neighborhood near Sanjurjo Badía Street and can be reached on foot from the surrounding area. Access to the interior is limited as it remains an active religious community where visitors are typically not permitted inside.
The original architectural plan envisioned multiple pavilions arranged around a central courtyard, but only one pavilion and the church were ever constructed. This unrealized vision gives the site an unexpected character shaped by what was actually built rather than what was intended.
