La Quinta, Fighting bull breeding estate in Palma del Río and Lora del Río, Spain
La Quinta is a fighting bull breeding estate operating across farmland between Seville and Córdoba, with two separate locations in the municipalities of Palma del Río and Lora del Río. The land consists of open grazing pastures where the bulls are raised under conditions designed to develop strength and behavior over time.
The estate was founded in 1881 and changed hands several times over the decades before Álvaro Martínez took over in 1992. His arrival brought a new direction to the breeding program that has shaped the ranch ever since.
The ranch follows a tradition of reading animal behavior through daily observation, a skill passed down through generations of handlers. Visitors can see how quietly and deliberately the workers move among the herds, keeping the bulls calm and undisturbed.
Both locations sit in open countryside and are easiest to reach by car, as public transport options in the area are limited. Arriving in the early morning or late afternoon gives the best chance of seeing the bulls active in the pastures.
The two properties carry distinct names, Fuente Merino in Lora del Río and Fuentelahiguera in Hornachuelos, and each plays a different role in how the animals are raised. This setup allows the ranch to adapt conditions and terrain to different stages of the bulls' development.
