The church stands at the top of a monumental stairway connecting Magdalene Square with Main Square, featuring two symmetrical bell towers and a baroque facade.
Built on the site of the original cathedral from the 5th century, the church underwent reconstructions in 1084 and later received its current form in 1772.
The church displays a natural wood altarpiece in Churrigueresque style, housing a 16th-century statue of Holy Mary carried during Easter processions.
Located at coordinates 42°20'7.9"N and 7°51'47.3"W, the church remains an active place of worship under the Roman Catholic Diocese of Ourense.
The church features preserved double columns from the second and third floors, showing late-Roman or Visigoth styles similar to Saint Columba of Bande.
