The Cemetery of San Francisco extends across Montealegre Hill, featuring numerous mausoleums, gravestones, and paths lined with laurel and cypress trees.
Established in 1834 with episcopal approval, the cemetery expanded in 1887 with the addition of a secular section to accommodate the growing urban population.
The cemetery contains notable sculptures by artists Piñeiro, Víctor Macho, and Faílde, representing different periods of funerary art and architectural styles.
Visitors can access the cemetery Monday through Friday from 10:00 to 19:30, while weekend hours are split between morning and afternoon sessions.
The cemetery holds the remains of writers Blanco Amor and Otero Pedrayo, including anthropologist Xosé Ramon Fernandez Oxea with his particular humorous epitaph.
