Castillo del Moral

Castillo del Moral is a medieval castle in Lucena featuring a distinctive octagonal tower and thick defensive walls surrounding the complex. Inside are multiple rooms and chambers displaying typical military construction details from the 15th century.

The fortress was built during the medieval period to defend against invading forces and gained wider recognition in 1483. That year marked the imprisonment of Boabdil, the last Nasrid ruler of Granada, within its tower following a major military encounter.

The castle now houses a museum displaying archaeological objects from different periods of human occupation in the region. Visitors can explore finds ranging from the earliest settlements to the medieval era.

The site is easily accessible and can be explored on foot, with the octagonal tower being the main focal point for visitors. Allow time to walk through the various interior rooms and climb to upper levels for views over the town.

A room called Sima del Angel within the museum section houses archaeological discoveries of major significance. These findings come from one of Spain's most important locations for understanding the earliest periods of human history.
