Port of Palos, Historic port in Palos de la Frontera, Spain

The port extends along the Tinto River banks with stone docks and wooden piers that accommodate various vessels and fishing boats.

Christopher Columbus and the Pinzon brothers departed from this port on August 3, 1492, starting their expedition that led to the Americas discovery.

The port reflects the maritime heritage of Andalusia through its traditional fishing practices and nautical infrastructure preserved from the 15th century.

Visitors can explore the port area through guided tours that start at the tourist office and include stops at La Fontanilla water source.

The port maintains its original medieval layout with structures dating from the time when it served as a protection against pirate attacks.
