Iglesia de San Jorge

The San Jorge Church features three Mudejar-style naves with pointed arches and two prominent doorways, including the stone-built Door of America.

In May 1492, the Royal Pragmatic was read within these walls, ordering Palos residents to provide two caravels for Christopher Columbus's expedition.

The temple combines Gothic and Mudejar architectural elements, with its northern entrance displaying geometric decorations in traditional bicolor brickwork.

The church maintains its original structure on an elevated position in the eastern part of town, adjacent to a water fountain used by sailors.

Through the Puerta de los Novios, Columbus and his crew walked their final steps on Spanish soil before departing on August 3, 1492.
