Malmi, Residential neighborhood in northern Helsinki, Finland.
Malmi is a residential neighborhood in northern Helsinki with several sections including Ylä-Malmi, Ala-Malmi, Tattariharju, and Malminkenttä. A central railway station connects these parts together and serves as the main transportation hub for the entire area.
The area was first documented as Malm in 1543 and developed from agricultural land into a suburban center. The arrival of railway connections in the 20th century accelerated this transformation and made it a populated residential area.
The neighborhood preserves Finnish building traditions through a mix of wooden houses and modern residential structures across its sections. Different parts show varying architectural styles from different eras that shape daily life here.
The railway station is easy to reach and offers direct connections to central Helsinki and other neighborhoods. Numerous bus routes cross the entire area and make it simple to move between the different sections.
The area contains Finland's largest cemetery, which extends over a vast area. The cemetery features carefully laid out paths that wind through forested sections, giving it the character of a wooded park.
