Per Brahe Statue

This bronze statue depicts a high-ranking state official dressed in formal attire, standing on a red granite pedestal in the center of a park. The sculpture catches the eye immediately as visitors walk through the surrounding green space.

This work was created in 1888 by a notable sculptor and honors a governor who founded the Academy of Turku. His tenure significantly shaped the political and academic development of the region.

The Swedish inscription on the base expresses a personal bond between the governor and the land he served. People passing through the park often pause to read these words, reflecting on what leadership meant during his era.

The statue stands in a public park and is freely accessible during daylight hours. The location sits near the cathedral and is easy to reach on foot, making it convenient for visitors to add to their walking route.

Interestingly, an earlier version of this sculpture by the same artist was deemed too small for its intended space. That earlier version was moved to a different city, where it still stands today.
