Ryysyranta, 1969 residential house in Parola, Finland.
Ryysyranta is an L-shaped brick house from 1969 in Parola measuring about 300 square meters, equipped with three fireplaces, a sauna with a bar, a swimming pool, and an inner courtyard. The living spaces flow across multiple levels arranged around the private outdoor area.
The house was built in 1969 by Finnish singer Irwin Goodman but had to be auctioned away in September 1970 due to unpaid debts and tax problems. This rapid change of ownership marked the end of Goodman's brief time with this remarkable residence.
The house takes its name from a song by Irwin Goodman, inspired by Ilmari Kianto's 1924 novel about a character from rural Finnish life.
The house features design elements considered advanced for the 1960s, including Finland's first residential dimmable lighting system and five telephones positioned throughout. Visitors should note that the multiple levels and open plan layout create an interconnected spatial design.
The main bedroom contained a round bed, an unusual feature reflecting Goodman's taste for modern extravagance. The kitchen layout followed a design popularized by another famous Finnish singer and shows how music and home design were connected in that era.
