Visavuori, Art museum and studio complex in Valkeakoski, Finland
Visavuori is an art museum and studio complex in Valkeakoski comprising three buildings: a residence, a working studio, and a pavilion displaying over one hundred sculptures by Emil Wikström. The spaces preserve the work areas and living quarters where artistic creation took place.
Emil Wikström founded Visavuori in 1912 as his residence and workplace, establishing a center for artistic creation in early 20th century Finland. The site later gained recognition as a cultural heritage site of national importance.
The site displays the artistic legacy of sculptor Emil Wikström and his grandson, cartoonist Kari Suomalainen, through their original works and personal belongings. Both artists worked and lived here, leaving traces of their creative lives throughout the buildings.
The site is located at Visavuorentie 80 in Tarttila with visitor access to all three buildings on the grounds. A shop and café operate in the former foundry building, providing refreshments and local goods.
The building complex features architectural elements designed by Wikström himself, including custom-built fireplaces and an observatory tower for viewing stars. These personal design choices reflect the artist's integration of living and working spaces.
