Lempäälä Church, Medieval church in Lempäälä, Finland
Lempäälä Church is a medieval church in Lempäälä with gray stone construction and distinctive four-leaf clover-shaped windows. The building underwent major modification in the 1830s when its foundation structure was redesigned to create its present cross-shaped layout.
The original parish church was founded in 1504 and dedicated to Saint Birgitta. The earliest written records of the Lempäälä parish community date back to 1430.
The wooden crucifix carved from birch is a surviving medieval work that shows the craftsmanship traditions of the region. The church preserves this hand-carved artifact as evidence of local artistic skill.
Access is at Kirkkopolku 1 and during summer months the doors are open on weekdays. Those interested in learning more about the building can participate in guided tours.
The bell tower standing next to the main church serves not only to house the bells but also contains a collection of ecclesiastical objects from different periods. Visitors can see historical religious items there that show the life of the parish community across centuries.
