Pirunlinna

Pirunlinna is an Iron Age fortification in Lempäälä featuring a wall-like construction made of rocks. The structure has three entrances positioned at the south, east, and west sides.

The fortification dates to the Iron Age and is approximately 1000 years old. Archaeological findings and structural elements show its use continued over extended periods.

The name combines Finnish words 'piru' for devil and 'linna' for castle, showing how local people explained the site's origins through supernatural beliefs. This naming reflects how ancient construction puzzled early inhabitants.

The site is accessible via a marked path from Kulju, with parking available near the base of the hill. The straightforward access makes visiting convenient for most people.

A cave-like formation on the northern side, known as pirunpesä, once held a stone-age arrowhead. This discovery suggests people sought shelter here long before the fort was built.
