Viitatorni, Residential tower in Jyväskylä, Finland.
Viitatorni is a thirteen-story residential tower in Jyväskylä with continuous rectangular windows across its entire facade. Six asymmetrically arranged stepped elements define the building's western side.
The building was constructed between 1959 and 1964 as part of the Viitaniemi residential area development with support from the Finnish Housing Foundation. It reflects post-war Finnish housing reform and construction approaches of that era.
The name refers to the nearby Viitaniemi area where the building became part of a larger residential neighborhood. Residents continue to use it as a stable housing center within the city.
The tower contains 72 residential units distributed across floors, ranging from compact apartments to larger three-room units at the building corners. Visitors can view the architectural design from outside, with the best viewing angles accessible from nearby streets.
Each apartment has a different floor plan layout, with three-room units featuring sliding partitions between living and sleeping areas. This gave residents flexible space usage that was unusual for residential design of that period.
