Taulumäki Church

Taulumäki Church is a Nordic Classicism brick structure with 24 angel paintings adorning its walls. The main sanctuary can hold approximately 700 people and features a clear, functional architectural design.

A fire in 1918 destroyed the previous timber church, prompting architect Elsi Borg to design a replacement. The new building opened in 1929 and remains in use at its original location today.

The walls display frescoes by Paavo Leinonen depicting Biblical scenes that shape the spiritual character of the interior space. These artworks create a contemplative setting that visitors encounter during their time here.

The building is easily accessible and located at a central spot in Jyväskylä. The interior remains open for visits and offers plenty of space to explore the design and artworks throughout the sanctuary.

Elsi Borg received the commission for this church design in 1927, making her one of the first women to design a religious building in Finland. Her achievement marked a notable moment for female architects in a field that was then dominated by men.
