Port of Tornio, Commercial port in Tornio, Finland
The Port of Tornio sits at the end of Bothnian Bay with a 9-meter deep channel that handles vessels up to 165 meters long. The facility offers docking spaces and storage areas for regular cargo operations serving multiple European destinations.
The port moved to Röyttä Island after the city fire of 1762, with construction finished in 1766 to strengthen maritime operations. Since then it developed into a key transshipment point on the eastern shore of Bothnian Bay.
The port functions as a vital connection point between Finland and Sweden, facilitating trade relationships between these Nordic nations.
The port is surrounded by a waterfront promenade where you can walk and watch ships and the water. Public access to the promenade is always open and offers a good view of the activity on the bay.
Eight land-based wind turbines stand near the port and plans exist to expand with an offshore wind farm. These installations show how renewable energy is becoming more common in the region and create a distinctive feature of the modern harbor landscape.
