La Seyne-sur-Mer, Mediterranean coastal commune in Var, France
La Seyne-sur-Mer is a coastal commune near Toulon that stretches between the Mediterranean and gentle hills. The town combines residential neighborhoods with small bathing coves and a shoreline that runs for several kilometers.
The Forges et Chantiers de la Méditerranée shipyard shaped the town for over a century and employed thousands of workers. After closing in 1986 the commune shifted toward a residential area with tourism.
The harbor at La Seyne still hosts fishing boats that bring fresh catch for local markets. Along the docks you can see nets being mended and small trawlers mooring.
The beaches lie within walking distance from the center and some sections suit families with young children. Outside high season you find quiet spots along the water.
Some old shipyard cranes still stand along the harbor edge and recall the industrial past. You can see them while walking along the waterfront promenade.
