Hotel Negresco, Five-star luxury hotel on Promenade des Anglais, Nice, France
The Negresco is a palace hotel on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, its pink dome visible from a distance and its facade showing classic architecture from the early twentieth century. The interior includes one hundred nineteen rooms and twenty-two suites spread across several floors, each furnished in different styles.
The architect Édouard-Jean Niermans designed the building in nineteen twelve for Romanian hotelier Henri Negrescu, who sought a new symbol for luxury tourism on the Côte d'Azur. During World War I, the structure served as a military hospital, which led to financial troubles after the conflict ended.
Inside the building, guests encounter artworks from different centuries, including an enormous crystal chandelier in the royal salon that was originally meant for the Russian court. This room shows how furnishings from the Belle Époque mix with later collector pieces, forming an open museum that guests and visitors experience while moving through the public areas.
Access to the promenade stands directly in front of the main entrance, where a private beach for hotel guests is located across the street. The fifth floor is reserved for special guests seeking more privacy.
The collection inside holds over six thousand art objects scattered throughout hallways, rooms, and public spaces. Among these pieces is one of three known original portraits of Louis XIV, painted by Hyacinthe Rigaud.
