Noyers-sur-Jabron, Mountain commune in Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, France
Noyers-sur-Jabron is a mountain commune in the Jabron Valley, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department of southeastern France. It has a newer village center with basic services and an older district where historic buildings are still standing.
The Notre-Dame de Bethleem church was built in the 12th century and was listed as a historic monument in 1913. Over time the original settlement moved to a new location, leaving behind ruins that are still visible today.
The name of the village comes from the Jabron river that runs through the valley and gives the place its identity. During the warmer months, a small market takes place on the central square where local producers bring fresh goods from the surrounding area.
The village has basic services including a post office, a health facility, and a school that also houses the town hall. It works well as a starting point for walking into the surrounding mountain terrain.
The abandoned old village contains a Romanesque bell tower that is still standing and marks the original location of the settlement. It is visible from the walking path, making it easy to compare the old and current village side by side.
