Bédoin - Chapelle de la Madeleine

The Chapelle de la Madeleine is a Romanesque chapel located on the southwestern slopes of Mont Ventoux surrounded by forested hills. The building features a square bell tower attached to its eastern side and sits among pine and cypress trees.

The chapel began as a Benedictine priory in the 11th century and served the monastic community of the region. In 1502 it was linked to Carpentras Cathedral, which strengthened its role within the broader church organization.

The chapel is dedicated to Saint Mary Magdalene and draws visitors who come to experience local traditions and customs. Its role in community life becomes visible through the gatherings and celebrations held here throughout the year.

Access to the chapel requires advance arrangement due to limited visiting conditions, so you cannot simply arrive unannounced. It is best to contact ahead and schedule a visit to ensure you can enter and spend time there.

The bell tower dates from the 12th century and features a distinctive dome-shaped roof that sets it apart from typical church towers. This architectural detail makes the tower a recognizable landmark when viewing the chapel from a distance.
