Built between 1696 and 1703, the cathedral replaced an 11th-century building and received minor basilica status from Pope Leo XIII in March 1896.
The Cambrai Madonna, an Italo-Byzantine painting from 1340, draws visitors to the cathedral's side chapel and represents the Virgin of Tenderness.
