Château de Montecler

Château de Montecler is a castle in Évron featuring 17th-century defensive structures. The building is characterized by water-filled moats and a central courtyard layout around which agricultural buildings and fortification elements are arranged.

The castle was built in the first half of the 17th century, replacing an older feudal structure on the same site. In 1616, under King Louis XIII, it was elevated to marquisate status, marking its rise as a noble residence.

The castle is privately owned and can only be viewed from the road as the family resides there. Visitors should focus on exterior views and respect the private nature of the location.

Inside, the castle preserves an impressive hall with ornately decorated woodwork from the 17th century, which is not accessible to visitors today. These hidden details testify to the former splendor of the noble house, even though the rooms remain closed.
