Alsace Wine Fair, Wine festival in Colmar, France
The Alsace Wine Fair is an outdoor wine and music festival held each August in Colmar, in the heart of the Alsace wine region. Visitors walk between rows of wine stalls, food stands, and a large concert stage set up for the occasion.
The fair was founded in the years after World War II, starting as a small exhibition where local growers displayed their wines. It grew steadily over the following decades into one of the best-known wine events in France.
The fair presents wines poured directly by the growers themselves, which gives visitors a chance to talk with the people behind each bottle. Regional food like tarte flambée and Munster cheese is served alongside, making the tasting feel like a full meal rather than just a drink.
The event is held at a large outdoor site, so comfortable shoes are a good idea since you will walk quite a bit. Coming early in the day gives you more time at the wine stalls before the concert area fills up in the evening.
The main stage can seat several thousand people and has hosted performances by well-known French and international artists over the years. The concert section and the wine tasting area are accessed separately, so it is possible to attend just one or the other.
