Prefecture hotel of Vendée

The Prefecture hotel of Vendée is an administrative building from the early 19th century featuring regular facades, symmetrical windows, and a characteristic roof structure. Located on Rue Delille, it currently houses the departmental administrative services for the region.

Construction of the building took place between 1806 and 1818 under engineer Marie-François Cormier's supervision. After partial damage in 1893, restoration work returned it to administrative use, and it was officially registered as a historical monument in 1991.

The building serves as the administrative heart of the department, visibly connecting past military use with present-day civic functions. Its presence in the heart of the city represents the shift from military to civilian authority that shaped the region's identity.

The building is located on Rue Delille in the Pentagone district and is easily accessible from the city center. Keep in mind that this is an active administrative center, so not all interior areas may be open to public viewing.
