Marché de La Chapelle, Covered market hall in 18th arrondissement, France.
Marche de La Chapelle is a market hall with a glass and metal structure located in the 18th arrondissement of Paris, built between 1883 and 1885. The hall houses various permanent food shops under one roof.
The site originated from the medieval Lendit fair that once extended from Saint-Denis to this area and later became a cattle market in the 1800s. The current hall was built as a replacement structure for this long-standing market tradition.
The merchants inside sell French delicacies and products from around the world, reflecting the diversity of people living in this neighborhood. It remains a gathering place where residents shop for everyday groceries and meet their neighbors.
The hall is open Tuesday through Sunday with extended hours Tuesday to Saturday and shorter hours on Sunday morning. Mondays are closed.
A 2010 renovation preserved the original Baltard-inspired architecture while adding modern modular stands for better functionality. This blend of historic design and contemporary convenience sets the hall apart.
