Église Saint-Ferdinand-des-Ternes, Modernist church in 17th arrondissement, Paris, France
Église Saint-Ferdinand-des-Ternes is a modern church building defined by three domes and stone facades that shape its exterior form. Large windows flood the interior spaces with daylight, creating bright and open rooms.
Construction began in 1937 and continued through World War II with interruptions. The church was finally completed and inaugurated in 1957.
The church takes its name from Saint Ferdinand III, a Spanish king venerated as its patron. The decoration brings together works by multiple artists that give the space its spiritual character.
The church is accessible on weekdays and offers multiple service times throughout the week. It also provides access to the crypt, where additional prayer spaces are available.
The crypt is the only place in Paris dedicated to Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, set apart from the rest of the building. Artist Angel Zarraga created decorative work that distinguishes this sacred space from other parts of the church.
