Château de Corbère

Château de Corbère is a medieval fortified structure with three levels and vaulted rooms on the ground floor, along with a rectangular tower serving as the main keep. The complex includes defensive walls that were built into the village ramparts.

Construction began in the 12th century and underwent major changes over the following centuries under different noble families. The most significant modifications occurred during the 13th and 16th centuries and shaped its current structure.

The architecture shows medieval Catalan features that are typical of fortifications in this region. Visitors can recognize the regional building style in the arrangement of rooms and walls.

Access requires care on uneven paths and aged structures, which can be challenging for visitors with mobility restrictions. Sturdy footwear is recommended and time should be set aside to explore the multi-level rooms.

The castle's defensive walls were cleverly integrated into the village's defense system and formed part of the shared protective structures. This blend of castle and village defense remains visible in the layout today.
