Séminaire Saint-Irénée

Séminaire Saint-Irénée is a school building in Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon designed by architect Louis Sainte-Marie-Perrin in the early 1900s with stone facades and clean geometric forms. The structure displays the straightforward design principles characteristic of that period.

The institution was founded in 1663 and relocated several times before settling in its current building between 1900 and 1903. The new structure marked a significant milestone in the facility's long history.

The religious institution provided seven years of education in philosophy, theology, and pastoral studies to prepare future Catholic priests for their ministry.

The building underwent major renovation between 2009 and 2012 and now serves as Résidence de Neuville with 98 apartments. Keep in mind that the interior is private residential space and generally not open for visits.

The facility established a partnership with the University of Valence in 1738 to ensure high-level academic training. This collaboration was unusual for that time and reflects the academic ambitions of the organization.
